PECTAA — the Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority — is the apex body set up by the Government of the Punjab to bring the province’s entire school reform effort under one roof. Curriculum development, teacher training, student assessment and institutional oversight, which previously sat with separate offices, are now the responsibility of a single authority with a single direction.
Why PECTAA Was Created
For years, Punjab’s education system had a coordination problem rather than an effort problem. The curriculum was designed in one office, teachers were trained by another, and exams were conducted by a third — and the three didn’t always move in the same direction. A syllabus would change while the exam pattern lagged behind; teachers would be trained on methods the assessment never tested. PECTAA’s founding idea is to close those gaps: when the same authority writes the curriculum, trains the teachers and sets the exam, the system finally pulls in one direction.
The ambition stated by the authority goes beyond fixing coordination. PECTAA benchmarks its work against international standards, with the declared goal of making Punjab a regional leader in educational quality, equity and innovation. Whether that ambition is met will show up in classrooms over the coming years — but the structural change itself is already the biggest reorganization of Punjab’s school education management in a decade.
How the Authority Is Organized
PECTAA operates under the leadership of a Chief Executive Officer and is organized into three wings:
Academics Wing
Curriculum & compliance, assessment & examinations, training & certification, and outreach, research & development — the academic engine of the authority.
Operations Wing
The practical machinery: exam centres, staffing, procurement, logistics and coordination with all 36 districts of Punjab.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Quality control and accountability — continuous monitoring, transparency and performance reporting across the authority’s work.
From PEC to PECTAA — A Short History
- Until 2020: The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) conducted the annual Grade 5 and 8 exams; results came out each spring and were checked by millions of families.
- 2020–2025: Board exams for these classes were discontinued — first due to COVID, then by policy — leaving schools to issue internal results.
- 2026: The exams returned under the newly formed PECTAA. Papers were held 9–12 March 2026 and the result was announced on 9 April 2026.
- 2027: The next session, which this website tracks — date sheets, roll number slips, model papers and board-wise results.
What PECTAA Means for Students and Parents
Behind the official language, the practical change for families is simple. Your child’s Grade 5 and Grade 8 papers — English, Mathematics, Urdu and General Science — are set, conducted and marked by PECTAA, and the result you check each April comes from this authority.
